This is a 1949 Olds Studio model cornet in very good, ready to play condition. It is in raw brass. The valves are in great shape, with good compression and action. It comes with a Benge 1 1/2C mouthpiece, and the original Olds case which is in good shape - the latches work, but don't spring.
This is a first-year Studio made in the original LA Olds shop. The Studio was an upper intermediate model, between the Special and the Super. It was designed for an Olds large Morse taper mouthpiece, but it plays very well with a standard Bach shank piece (like the Benge) - it just goes in a little further - with the tuning slide out about 3/8". Like all '30s and '40s Olds horns I have had, it is a wonderful player. I have a soft spot for LA Olds cornets, but I can't keep them all.
