Fender molded ABS guitar case (late 1980s - early 1990s)
This is a second-generation ABS molded Fender case, probably from the very late eighties or some time in the nineties.
The first run of these had a tendency to cave downward on the lid. So Fender issued this tweaked design. Rather than the concave molded lid, this one got convex.
They also improved the latches and locking setup.
Two points against it, both pretty minor.
The two ribbons adjoinging the lid with the bottom portion have slipped out of their orginal length, so that they no longer hold the lid vertically when open. That's something you could address any number of ways: by stapling or stitching folds into the exposed ribbon to rein them in; by using E6000 and maybe a putty knife to slide and glue the ribbons deeper in the crevice between the styrofoam and plastic casing; etc. And of course maybe you're satisfied with the lid lying flat. The possibilities lie open before you.
Additionally, there's a noticeable scuff line where a closet door slid along the exterior. You could probably even just paint that black and be done with it.
Otherwise, it's a great case. And as I've said in other listings: the biggest liability with these old Fender ABS cases is the tendency of the metal feet to break off. I'm pleased to say all four feet are intact and strong and the case stands firmly on its side as it should.
