2. PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The B.I.C. SoundSpan TPR-400 is an omnidirectional floorstanding loudspeaker from British Industries Co. (a division of Avnet, Westbury, New York). Its upward-firing driver assembly and stacked dispersion elements radiate sound around the room rather than in a single forward beam.

This pair has been serviced, refinished and tested by HQaudios. The photos show the actual pair you will receive.

3. HQAUDIOS RESTORATION & TESTING

Before Restoration

This B.I.C. SoundSpan TPR-400 pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic condition.

Each cabinet, cone, surround, and spider was checked for originality and for glue joints that had loosened or shifted with age. Every driver was tested by hand for voice-coil rub – a scratching noise or a stiff, binding cone indicates a shifted or heat-damaged voice coil. The DC resistance of every driver was checked against its nominal impedance. The crossover networks were examined for bulging or leaking capacitors, each capacitor was measured against its original value (within 10% tolerance), and the wiring and terminals were inspected.

Inspection Findings: The mounting foot of one tweeter was broken. The wood cabinets were scratched, one aluminum trim strip was broken, and the grille fabric was torn. The speaker terminals were in good condition.

The inspection results were used to determine the work required for this specific pair.

During Restoration

Based on the inspection results, this B.I.C. SoundSpan TPR-400 pair was serviced and refinished according to HQaudios' technical standards while preserving its original engineering and voicing.

• Tweeter Mount: The broken tweeter mounting foot was repaired.
• Cabinets: The wood cabinets were refinished, keeping their original color.
• Aluminum Trim: The broken aluminum trim was repaired.
• Grilles: The grille fabric was replaced.
• Drivers: All drivers retain their original cones and diaphragms, which are in good condition.
• Cleaning & Detailing: The drivers, crossovers and terminals were cleaned, and the speakers were reassembled.

After Restoration / Final Testing

Once service was completed, the pair underwent comprehensive testing under real operating conditions.

• Phase Check: Driver polarity was verified using a phase-reversal check to ensure both speakers play in correct phase.
• Listening Test: The pair underwent an extended real-world listening test with a wide range of music to confirm output from every driver, tonal balance and stereo imaging.
• Final QC: Only after completing HQaudios' service and testing process was the pair approved and prepared for its next owner.
