2010 Gibson Custom Shop ES-330L Cherry w/Bigsby, HSC & COA, Long Neck
Available now is this killer, limited-run Gibson Custom Shop model: the ES-330L, with the “L” standing for Long Neck. Finished in a deep cherry red and fitted with a US-made Bigsby B7 vibrato, this is a distinctive take on a classic Gibson design.
The guitar comes complete with its original certificate of authenticity and checklist, along with a ’90s Gibson ES-style hard case.
Featured in the Gibson Custom Shop lineup from approximately 2009 to 2011, the ES-330L is a modern reissue of the original ES-330 Long Neck, introduced in 1968, with several notable differences.
Like its vintage predecessor, the neck joins the body at the 19th fret rather than the 16th, giving it a feel closer to an ES-335 and offering improved access to the upper frets.
Staying true to the ES-330 platform, it features a fully hollow construction and a pair of dog-ear P-90 pickups. However, this modern reissue incorporates several departures from the original ’60s models. The pickup covers are black plastic rather than chrome, the hardware is nickel-plated, and the neck features a ’60s C-shaped profile with a 42mm nut width, as opposed to the narrower 40mm width found on the earliest examples.
Further distinguishing features include top-hat control knobs with inserts, green-tipped Gibson Deluxe tuners and the distinctive bridge P-90 mounting arrangement.
Aside from the retrofitted Bigsby B7—which we consider a welcome addition—the guitar remains completely original.
Condition-wise, the guitar is in excellent shape, with no breaks or structural repairs and is fully functional throughout.
Cosmetically, there is very little to report. A handful of extremely light surface scratches are present, mostly on the back of the body and pickguard, but overall, the guitar presents beautifully.
The neck and attractive rosewood fretboard show minimal signs of use, aside from a few light marks to the rear of the neck. The frets exhibit very little wear, with all 22 retaining plenty of life. There is also a small amount of scuffing at the tip of the headstock, though this is minimal.
The original electronics function flawlessly, and the pair of P-90s deliver the unmistakable, characterful tone that makes this platform so appealing. They sound fantastic.
The Bigsby installation required additional mounting holes, with some visible around the anchor points. These have been discreetly finished to a professional standard. Please refer to the photographs for a closer look.
