1966 Fender Musicmaster II – Vintage USA – Modified – Natural Finish – Rewound Original Pickup

A genuine 1966 Fender Musicmaster II with a natural wood finish, rosewood fingerboard, and a number of modifications made over its nearly 60-year history. This is a great opportunity to own a vintage American-made Fender with plenty of character and a unique dual-pickup configuration.

Condition:

The guitar is in very good overall condition considering its age and modifications. The body presents beautifully with attractive natural wood grain, general signs of age and use, and one noticeable finish chip along the upper body edge, as photographed.

The neck is in very good condition with a couple of small bumps and areas of finish wear around the headstock. The rosewood fingerboard presents nicely, and the truss rod has been tested and functions properly.

Pickups, Electronics & Modifications:

This guitar has undergone several modifications over the years, which are important to disclose:

• Original Neck Pickup: The original 1966 Fender single-coil pickup was professionally rewound by Sentell Pickups in Sacramento in October 2026. During cleaning, I accidentally snagged and broke some of the extremely fine copper coil winding. Rather than replace the original pickup, I had it professionally rewound to preserve the vintage pickup assembly.
• Aftermarket Bridge Humbucker: A humbucker was added by a previous owner, requiring routing of the original body. The manufacturer of the humbucker has not been identified.
• Pickup Configuration: There is no pickup selector switch. Both pickups are active simultaneously, producing a distinctive combination of vintage Fender single-coil and humbucker tones.
• Pickguard: The white pickguard with red and black laminated layers is believed to be original to the guitar but has been modified to accommodate the additional humbucker.
• Finish: The body has a natural wood finish rather than its original factory color. Evidence of the earlier finish remains visible inside the pickup cavities.

These modifications make this a player-grade vintage Fender rather than a collector-grade original example. All modifications have been disclosed, and photographs document the guitar’s present condition.
