AKG D5 Professional Dynamic Vocal Microphone

The AKG D5 is a compact, hand-held dynamic microphone engineered for live vocal performance and studio work. Its supercardioid pattern and robust construction make it a reliable choice for touring musicians and recording professionals who demand consistent, articulate sound capture in demanding environments.

Design & Build

Built around a variable-thickness laminated Varimotion diaphragm, the D5 delivers focused vocal articulation with minimal proximity effect coloration. The supercardioid polar pattern provides tight rejection of off-axis sound, making it ideal for stage use where monitor bleed and ambient noise are concerns. Its rugged die-cast housing and spring-steel wire-mesh grille withstand the rigors of repeated touring, while the integrated dual shock mount isolates handling noise effectively.

Audio Performance

A frequency response of 20 Hz to 17 kHz captures the full tonal range required for natural vocal reproduction, with presence-peak characteristics suited to cutting through dense mixes. The microphone's 147 dB SPL capacity handles aggressive singers and high-volume stage environments without distortion, while its 2.6 mV/Pa sensitivity and 600 Ohm electrical impedance ensure clean signal transfer to standard mixing consoles and audio interfaces.
