Custom Antigua Burst Nitrocellulose Refinish
Jim Root Signature EMG Daemonum Pickups

A stunning and truly unique 2021 Fender USA Jim Root Signature Stratocaster, professionally refinished in the iconic Antigua Burst finish and upgraded with Jim Root's signature EMG Daemonum pickup set.

We've affectionately named this particular guitar “Maida Vale”, inspired by the Antigua-finished Stratocaster Jim Root played during Slipknot's iconic BBC performance in 2020.

The result is something rather special — the unmistakable look of one of Fender's most distinctive vintage finishes, combined with the aggressive, stripped-back design of Jim Root's signature Stratocaster.

Custom Antigua Burst Nitrocellulose Refinish

What makes this guitar particularly interesting is the quality and attention to detail of its refinish.

The body and pickguard were sent to Corona, California, where they underwent a complete professional Custom Shop nitrocellulose refinish in Antigua Burst.

The distinctive Antigua finish, with its graduated smoky green, grey and cream tones, is one of Fender's most recognisable and unusual colour schemes.

Originally introduced during the 1970s, Antigua has become something of a cult favourite among Fender enthusiasts, particularly on Stratocasters and Telecasters.

The finish gives this Jim Root model an entirely different appearance from the standard production guitars, while retaining the aggressive, minimalist character of the original design.

This is a professionally refinished Fender USA signature model, rather than a factory-produced Antigua edition.

EMG Jim Root Daemonum Pickups

The guitar has also been upgraded with a set of Jim Root Signature EMG Daemonum active humbuckers, replacing the standard EMG 81/60 configuration.

Developed in collaboration with Jim Root, the Daemonum pickups were designed to deliver the power and aggression required for his playing while offering greater clarity, articulation and dynamic response.

The bridge pickup provides tight, focused lows, an aggressive midrange and excellent note definition, particularly with heavily distorted or down-tuned guitar sounds.

The neck pickup offers a fuller, smoother response, making it equally effective for expressive lead playing and atmospheric clean passages.

Together, they make an excellent match for the Jim Root Stratocaster's simple, no-nonsense electronics.

The “Maida Vale”

The inspiration behind this guitar came from Jim Root's appearance during Slipknot's BBC performance in 2020, where he was seen playing an Antigua-finished Stratocaster.

We loved the combination of the vintage-inspired Antigua colour scheme and the modern Jim Root signature design, so we've named this example “Maida Vale” in recognition of that performance.

It isn't an official Fender special edition or artist-owned instrument, but rather a unique, professionally customised example inspired by Jim's own guitar.
