This is an early iteration of the Wampler Faux Tape Echo. It does all kinds of Fo Fo sound things that attempt to approximate the sound of an old tape delay machine. If you close your eyes, you can't see it, but when you open them you can and it looks cool. You can use it with a 9v center negative power supply or with a 9v battery. In order to access the battery compartment, you must know how to use a philips head screwdriver to unscrew and re-screw a screw. If that is not in your wheel house, there are plenty of pedals out there that have clip-on battery doors on the battery compartment that do not require the use of any sophisticated toolage.
