I am offering here a PRS SE Mikael Akerfeldt Signature Tortoise Shell from 2012, the still handcrafted in Korea signature model of Opeth guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt with solid mahogany body, spectacularly figured flamed maple top, set maple neck with Wide Fat neck profile and 42.9mm nut width, dark rosewood fingerboard with PRS Birds Pearloid inlays and 24 jumbo frets, powerful HH pickup constellation with a PRS Designed SE HFS Treble Humbucker and a PRS Designed SE Vintage Bass Humbucker, high-quality PRS tremolo bridge, as well as sealed PRS gold tuners in a beautiful high-gloss tortoise shell finish with Opeth "O" logo on the top and gold hardware in excellent condition, including black vintage hardshell case and professional setup with 10-46 Ernie Ball strings.

Mikael Åkerfeldt is one of the most influential musicians in modern progressive metal. As the vocalist, guitarist, and creative force behind the Swedish band Opeth, he became particularly known for his extraordinary blend of complex metal arrangements, atmospheric acoustic passages, and influences from progressive rock and jazz. In collaboration with PRS, this distinctive signature model was created, combining his versatile musical demands with the classic aesthetics and high-quality craftsmanship of the Korean SE series. In particular, the striking Opeth “O” logo on the top makes the guitar an unmistakable collector’s item for fans of the band.

Sonically, the SE Mikael Åkerfeldt impresses with an enormous range. The solid mahogany body provides a powerful foundation with warm mids and long sustain, while the maple top lends the tone additional brilliance and definition. The two PRS-designed SE HFS Treble and Vintage Bass humbuckers deliver both warm, transparent clean tones and punchy, precise high-gain sounds. This makes the guitar ideal for the dynamic shifts between atmospheric passages and powerful metal riffs that characterize Åkerfeldt’s playing style.

A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery (starting at 6:00 min).

The set maple neck with a comfortable Wide Fat profile fits perfectly in the hand and, together with the rosewood fretboard, 24 jumbo frets, and a 10" radius, offers excellent playability. The high-quality PRS tremolo bridge enables expressive vibrato effects, while the sealed tuners ensure reliable tuning stability.

Visually, the guitar is a real eye-catcher: the deeply shimmering high-gloss Tortoise Shell finish beautifully highlights the impressive flamed maple grain. The gold hardware, classic PRS Birds inlays, and the gold Opeth logo give this signature model a look that is both elegant and distinctive.
