bought from retrofret in 2018. description courtesy of them:

Gibson ES-335 Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 847104, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, period hard shell case.

This is a nice example of the classic 1960's ES-335TD, in sunburst finish complete with period Bigsby Vibrato, not factory installed but a fairly common addition in this period. The instrument's other features are typical for 1966-7, with chrome-plated hardware including the Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon saddles and two Gibson humbucking pickups with patent number sticker on the bases. Other typical features include enclosed Kluson Deluxe tuners with double-ring plastic buttons and the "capped" back-painted clear plastic knobs that were replaced within the next year with "amp" style black molded knobs. The bound rosewood fingerboard has pearloid block inlay. This one shows some play time but is still well preserved for its 50+ years.

Overall length is 41 1/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 15 7/8 in. (40.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9/16 in. (40 mm.). Overall a very nice example of a mid-60's sunburst ES-335, with some light wear and a couple of parts substitutions. The most obvious change is an added period gold-plated Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, which appears to have been on since the guitar was more or less new. The blind nut is missing from the pickguard bracket and the switch tip is a repro; everything else appears original. The finish shows strong color with light checking overall, there is not a lot of wear but it has some small dings and dents and a fairly large chip off the treble side of the heel. There is what looks like a small cigarette burn by the tailpiece under the low E string.

The rim of the lower tone knob was cracked and repaired at some point; it looks like perhaps there was a concurrent glue accident of some sort as there is some polished-out disturbance to the finish in this region; this is pretty minor but noticeable on close inspection. There is also some of the finish rubbed off the back of the neck on the treble side, with a couple of chips behind the 9th fret area. The original frets and fingerboard have some wear but this is still a very good sounding and playing guitar, well used but well cared for in the past. Includes a period HSC in the 1960's Epiphone style. Overall Excellent - Condition.
