Bought new, only gigged once and used in practice a handful of times. Iconic design, great build with a 9-ply walnut mahogany through neck, and articulate, versatile sound from the FR270 Probucker pickups and CTS pots.

The Epiphone Firebird in Vintage Sunburst revives the radical reverse-body design first introduced in 1963, pairing vintage-inspired features with modern reliability. Designed originally by auto stylist Ray Dietrich, the Firebird stood out with its neck-through construction, sleek lines and bright, cutting voice. This refreshed Inspired by Gibson version stays true to that heritage, delivering the same unmistakable feel and tonal character that made the Firebird a favourite among rock and blues players for decades.

Its 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through body provides exceptional sustain, resonance and structural stability, while the SlimTaper C neck profile offers a comfortable, fast feel across all 22 medium-jumbo frets. A pair of ProBucker FB720 pickups recreates the original Firebird pickup design of the ’60s, using dual blade magnets for a bright, hum-free tone that sits uniquely between a single coil and a traditional humbucker. Finished with LockTone hardware, Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners and the iconic Firebird pickguard, this Vintage Sunburst model blends standout looks with powerful, distinctive sound.

Neck-through sustain

The Firebird’s signature neck-through construction plays a huge part in its tone and feel. With the tuners, pickups and bridge all mounted to the same continuous wood structure, the guitar resonates evenly from end to end, giving it a sustain and clarity that set it apart from bolt-on or set-neck designs. The mahogany and walnut combination provides warmth, midrange punch and long-lasting note bloom.

The SlimTaper C neck profile gives the Firebird a slick, modernised playing experience while keeping plenty of vintage character. The ProBucker FB720 pickups reproduce the original ’60s Firebird pickup design, which differs dramatically from mini-humbuckers. Instead of polepieces and a single bar magnet, these feature twin blade magnets inside the coils for a clearer, brighter and more open tone. The result is a hum-free sound with the cut of a single coil and the body of a humbucker, making it ideal for bluesy cleans, gritty riffs and expressive lead work.
