Every reverb plugin I own needs serious tweaking to sit right. The RV-1 is set and forget. I mostly ran it as a mono insert under the lead vocal and it just dissolves right into the track where you don't even notice it. No automation, there's EQ on the box too, and a limiter, but mostly I dialed that stuff in and barely tweaked it-- my experience was I dialed in the return to taste and the vocal just sat in the pocket.

It’s a real spring tank, not a model of one. It has the bloom and a little of the clank that plugins get close to but never fully nail. Push the input and it gets dirty in a really musical way. One downside to that: you can't set this next to a power source. This is a real tank, it will vibrate, and then you need to add a plug to take the buzzing out. So, yeah, don't put it next to the power strip. I made that mistake and then moved it down the rack a bit.

It’s great on:

• Lead vocals (where it lived in my rig)
• Snare: that classic 60s splash
• Guitar solos and lead lines
• Tambourine and percussion

Features:

• Mono, with TRS or XLR inputs
• Built-in limiter, so it basically won’t overload except in extreme cases, which means you can hit it hard 
• The EQ sits in the reverb return, so it only shapes the wet signal and leaves your dry signal alone. It has midrange frequency, midrange EQ and treble controls. 
• Direct and reverb level controls, so it works as an insert or on a send. I used both, depending.
• 1.8-second decay, with 33, 37 and 41 ms initial delays per spring 
• Footswitch jack for killing the wet signal (FWIW, I never messed with that)
• 1U rack
