Very cool and increasingly uncommon Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway Studio from 1997, finished in Heritage Cherry Sunburst.

This is from Gibson’s late-’90s carved-top Double Cutaway series (not the flat-top Les Paul Special/Junior DC). It has classic Les Paul construction with a mahogany body and carved plain maple cap, but in Gibson’s double-cut body with excellent upper-fret access and a 24-fret neck.

The original one-piece Gibson wraparound bridge is included. Currently fitted with a Graph Tech ResoMax adjustable wraparound bridge, which gives each string its own intonation adjustment while retaining the simplicity and feel of the original wraparound design. It also uses Graph Tech String Saver saddles and their magnetic AutoLock system. Completely reversible; original bridge goes with the guitar.

The nitro has developed some really attractive natural checking over its nearly 30 years, particularly across the top. It gives the Cherry Sunburst a great aged appearance without trying to make the guitar something it isn’t. Please see photos for overall cosmetic condition.

These early carved-top DCs are a neat and relatively short-lived part of Gibson history. The Studio version is particularly stripped down: no binding, dot markers, plain carved maple rather than an ornate figured top, two humbuckers, and a wraparound bridge. Gibson later continued the carved-top concept with the more ornate DC Standard/Standard Plus models, but hasn’t kept this style of carved-maple Les Paul Double Cut in regular production.

A great option if you want the fundamental Les Paul recipe—mahogany, carved maple, humbuckers and nitro—but prefer a lighter visual treatment, 24 frets and dramatically better upper-fret access than a traditional single-cut Les Paul.
