1968 Fender Mustang Bass - Vintage Natural Refin - Player Grade - Original Hardware + OHSC

Genuine 1968 Fender Mustang Bass, Fullerton-made CBS era, 30" short scale. Professional natural refin done in the mid-70s with 50 years of patina since - this is NOT a reissue.

Owned in Adelaide 5070. Selling with its original black tolex hard case with orange plush interior.

CONDITION: Good / Player-grade vintage.

Has had a professional repair to the face of the headstock due to a burn sustained (damage was cosmetic only).

Genuine, year and model correct Fender headstock decal re-applied at Fender factory in the US ( dont have any further info as this was my fathers bass).

Has a very small section of 1st fret neck binding missing (repaired professionally over 40 years ago).

One clay dot fret marker has fallen out

Two small indents on rear of body.

All these issues can be seen via pictures provided.

Neck is straight, truss rod works, rosewood board with clay dots. Low action, light and punchy - perfect studio bass or for smaller hands. Finish has honest player wear, edge dings (see photos), checked nitro from the 70s refin.

ORIGINAL:

- Original Fender Elephant ear tuners (all 4, Fender® stamped - see white background photos)

- Original Mustang bridge / string-through plate

- Original split-coil Mustang pickup

- Original pearloid pickguard

- Original neck plate with big F logo - serial 249789 - correct for 1968

- Original OHSC

MODS:

- Professional refinish to natural amber c.1975

- Added bridge single-coil pickup in front of bridge (cream cover) - wired to original controls for extra punch

- Refinished headstock face, string tree removed, decal present

- Pots date to 1966 (Stackpole 304-6631 - week 31, 1966) - factory stock lag typical for CBS-era, correct for 1968 build. Neck heel is B width.

Weight approx 3.2-3.5kg typical for Mustang Bass - feels light as expected for short-scale alder.

This is priced as player-grade vintage to reflect refin and added pickup. You will not find an all-original '68 for this price in Australia. Ideal for recording - that classic short-scale thump.

Photos are the actual bass. No trades unless they are electric guitars of similar value ( i am a guitarist, not a bassist).

Low ball offers will be ignored.

This is a genuine one of a kind vintage Fender bass made in the US during the golden era of Fenders master craftmanship.

Has to be seen in person to be trully appreciated for just what a stunning piece this really is.

Adelaide pickup welcome - happy for inspections. Can ship Australia-wide in OHSC + outer box insured - $150-$180 east coast estimate. International on request.
