I don’t like letting go of this one, but I’m thinning out the herd. This is a 1980 Sunburst with a Maple Fretboard in very good condition. The Mighty T-40 was the first Peavey production bass. The T-40 has become iconic and developed a reputation over time for being multifunctional, utilitarian, and durable. Double offset cutaway body, long scale 34“ bolt-on bi-laminated rock maple neck, 23-fret fingerboard, chrome hardware, fixed bridge, four on a side tuners, two double blade style humbucking pickups, two volume controls, two tone controls (one per pickup), pickup phase switch, three-way pickup selector switch, brown laminated pickguard.

It has a few small issues: Missing truss rod cover. Split in the fretboard from the 18th to 20th fret. A pickup selector switch is bent but still works. The screw on the D-string tuner has been replaced.  A few dents and scratches but very low milage for a 46-year-old instrument. Apart from the issues mentioned it plays well and comes with the Original Hard-Shell Case. Feel free to ask me any questions. Kept in climate controlled, smoke-free studio environment. Never gigged.

A unique Pickup Wiring System: The original Red Rhodes designed pickups allow for Single or Dual Coil output. Fully opening the tone potentiometer to 10 achieves Single Coil Mode. Turning counterclockwise to 7 brings the second coil into operation which then engages full range Humbucking mode. Rotation of the control from 7 to 0 further contours the tone circuit. The Phase Switch is a two-position switch which reverses the coil relationship in the Bridge pickup when the pickup switch is in the middle position (Up is In-phase, and Down is Out-of-phase).

What you’ve heard is true, this is a hefty instrument that weighs 10.6 lbs. But I’ve owned other basses that were even heavier. Using a wide, high quality, padded strap (and good playing posture) will make the weight quite manageable. The T-40 tone and build is worth the effort.

Due to the age of this vintage bass guitar it is being sold As Described. Please examine the photos carefully and ask any questions before purchase. This bass may need a professional set-up to suit your personal playing style. No returns.

Original hard-shell case included. Will ship packed safely within a Reverb branded shipping box. Ships only to the lower 48 states in the USA. Reverb Safe ship with signature required.
