2026 Delilah Customs - The Sand Box ‘72 Telecaster Deluxe - Lollar’Tron Pickups - Mastery Bridge
Here we have our latest build in the Delilah Customs series from Top Five Guitars - The Sand Box - a beautifully stained and finished ‘72 Tele Deluxe with an awesome set of Lollar’Trons.
It was a joy to develop the finish on this guitar. The mix of stains and oils brought the swamp ash body to life with so much articulate detail and color in the unique grain. Finished in a mix of tinted gunstock and linseed oils, layer upon layer, for an extremely smooth and very solid finish that will sweeten with age.
The neck is a one-piece maple neck with an rosewood fretboard, It features a very comfortable C profile measuring approximately .86" at the first fret and .96" at the twelfth, a modern 9.5" fingerboard radius, vintage tall frets, nicely rounded fingerboard edges, a hand carved bone nut, and vintage style Gotoh locking tuners. The back of the neck has been given the Delilah Customs treatment of smooth sanding and oils and aging. It’s finished for a super smooth, very fast feel. It has that broken-in feel players spend years trying to achieve, with low action, spot on intonation, and effortless playability all the way up the neck.
The set of Lollar’Trons deliver a fantastic blend of vintage Filter’Tron sparkle, punch, and clarity with the solid, resonant character of a Tele Deluxe. The bridge pickup offers tight, focused lows, crisp highs, and a wonderfully percussive attack, with plenty of bite and growl when pushed. The neck pickup is warm, open, and articulate, with a chimey top end and excellent note separation that never becomes muddy.
Together, they give the Tele Deluxe a distinctive voice that combines Gretsch-inspired jangle and twang with the fullness and power of a dual-humbucker guitar. Exceptionally dynamic and touch-sensitive, they're equally at home with shimmering cleans, gritty blues, rockabilly, jangly indie rock, and classic rock.
A Mastery Bridge not only adds to the clarity and sustain, but keeps the intonation tight and the tuning stability solid. CTS audio taper pots, paper in oil Dijon tone caps, and Switchcraft output jack and 3-way switch help keep the quiet parts quiet and consistent.
This is an outstanding Tele Deluxe for everything from chicken pickin’ country, Americana, and jazz to fat rock riffs and indie jangle. And, if looks could kill this thing would have a trail of dead in its wake. It is very nicely balanced whether in your lap or on a strap.
