Available now is a seldom-seen, all-original 1983 Tokai LC60 Love Rock Black Beauty, finished in a classy ebony and featuring an exceptionally dark and silky rosewood fretboard. Remarkably lightweight for a LP style guitar, it tips the scales at just 7.93 lbs!

Widely considered one of the finest vintage Japanese takes on the Gibson Les Paul Custom, the Tokai TLC-60 Love Rock Custom faithfully recreates the construction, feel and tonal character of its American inspiration. Crafted to an exceptional standard, it features an old-growth African mahogany body, a carved mahogany top with the distinctive belly contour associated with ’50s models, and a one-piece mahogany neck carved to a ’59 profile. The rosewood fingerboard is complemented by classic block inlays and fret-edge binding, while a pair of original Tokai ’57 PAF humbuckers deliver the warm, articulate and harmonically rich tones that have established these early Love Rocks as highly sought-after instruments.

Condition-wise, this is a very well-preserved, played example, clearly cared for throughout its life. It remains free from breaks or repairs and is 100% functional throughout.

Cosmetically, the guitar displays honest, age-appropriate wear consistent with a well-maintained instrument approaching 44 years of age. There are some light surface marks and scattered indents, as pictured, none of which are wood bearing. A notable area of wear is along the treble side of the bridge pickup, where there is some minor finish clouding, presumably caused by the previous owner’s hand positioning and playing technique.

The frets retain plenty of life, showing only light wear, and the guitar plays smoothly and comfortably across the entire neck. Original hardware gold hardware has tarnished tastefully and all plastics remain intact. The factory electronics function as intended, and the stock Tokai humbuckers deliver excellent clarity, sustain and that unmistakable, muscular Les Paul punch.

As expected from this era of Tokai production, the build quality is exceptional throughout.

Included is an Epiphone Les Paul–fitted hard case, supplied with the guitar as part of the sale.
