Our Notes: In Very Good condition. The body, neck, and headstock show various dings and scratches; evidence of a bass that was very loved and therefore played a lot. There's also some finish cracking, mostly on the back of the headstock, and there are a couple of air bubbles in the handmade pickguard. All that said, the neck is very straight and the action is comfortable! We have cleaned this instrument and installed a new set of strings; it's ready for it's new owner! Serial Number: 330710
This 1966 Gibson Melody Maker Bass is a rare piece of rock and roll history, dated by its original CTS pot code (1376630) to 1966. Originally designed as an entry-level instrument, the Melody Maker Bass features a comfortable short 30" scale neck that makes it an approachable and easy-playing bass even decades later.
This example has seen some modifications over its 60 years — the body finish has been stripped and refinished natural, and sports a home-made wooden pickguard, replacement Gibson Schaller-style tuners, and Speed-style knobs. Where it counts most, however, the originality has been preserved: the pickup, bridge, nut, and pots are all original, keeping the authentic vintage tone intact.
