Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive from 1981 with JRC4558 chip

This pedal looks rough but works great and sounds great as well.

Pedal was fully tested and works as it should with no issues. No Box.

The Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive was released in 1981 as Boss's second-ever overdrive pedal, evolving directly from the 1977 OD-1 OverDrive.

Key Features & Design

• Asymmetrical Clipping Circuit: Replicates the warm, organic sound and dynamic feel of a driven tube amplifier.
• Added Tone Control: Unlike its predecessor the OD-1, the 1981 SD-1 introduced an active tone control knob to sculpt high-end response and clean up frequency limitations.
• Mid-Range Hump: Features an EQ curve that boosts the midrange while gently shelving the low end, helping guitarists cut through a live band mix.
• Controls: Three simple top-mounted knobs for Level, Tone, and Drive.

1981 Vintage Models & Collector Info

• Made in Japan (MIJ): Early 1981 units were built in Japan (featuring silver or black label variations depending on the exact month, and classic chips like the NEC C4558C or JRC4558).
• Power Requirements: Original 1981 production models typically required an external ACA power adapter (12V non-regulated style of the era) or a 9V battery, unlike modern SD-1 pedals which run on standard 9V DC center-negative power.
• Collector Market Value: Vintage 1981 units in working or collector condition commonly command anywhere from $300 to over $600+ USD on platforms like eBay and Reverb, compared to around $65–$70 for a brand-new standard reissue.
