Warrior Isabella 59 With A Heavily Quilted Maple Top, Mint And Unplayed

This is a 2020s Warrior Isabella 59, and the top is the first thing anybody says out loud about it. The quilt is extremely heavy, the kind of figure that moves and shifts as you tilt the guitar under a light, with deep three dimensional pools running across the whole top rather than a thin ripple at the edges. Warrior builds in a small shop in Rossville, Georgia, and tops like this one are why people order from them instead of off a wall.

It’s in mint condition and it has never really been played. It sat in its case. Everything that came in that case is still in it: all the original paperwork, the case candy, and the original case.

Condition

Mint. There’s nothing to disclose on this one, because there’s no wear to describe. No buckle rash, no belt marks, no fret wear, no dings. A guitar that spent its life in a closed case with its paperwork is about as close to new as a used instrument gets, and the price on a used one is the reason to buy it this way instead of ordering a new build and waiting.

It weighs 7.43 pounds, which for a figured maple topped solidbody is a comfortable number. Light enough for a long set, heavy enough to feel like it’s made of something.

How It Plays

The neck is a modern, fast profile rather than a fat vintage club. At the nut it measures 1.69 inches wide and 0.78 inches deep, and at the 12th fret it’s 2.05 inches wide and 0.83 inches deep. That depth barely changes as you go up the neck, which is what makes a shallow neck like this one feel so quick: your hand doesn’t have to reset its shape when you move past the body join. Players who like a thin, flat, D style neck get along with this one right away.

It’s untouched, so whoever buys it gets to set the relief and the action wherever they want from a clean baseline instead of undoing somebody else’s compromises.

How It Sounds

The Isabella 59 is Warrior’s take on the 1959 single cut idea, so the voice lives in that territory: thick and vocal in the midrange, with a strong fundamental on every note and enough top end to stay clear through gain. A heavy quilted maple cap over a solid body is the sound people chase on this format, because the maple firms up the attack and adds the bell on top while the body underneath keeps the warmth and the sustain. Clean, it’s round and piano like with real weight behind single notes. Pushed, it gets vocal and sings rather than fizzes, and chords stay readable instead of turning to mush.

Because it’s never been played in, it’s also a guitar that will keep opening up. A new build this nice usually sounds better after a year of real playing, and this one hasn’t had that year yet.
