Up for sale is a Fernandes FST-55 The Function S- style guitar in rare Metallic Purple color manufactured in the late 80’s / early 90’s in Japan in excellent condition. This one is rare and manufactured when Fernandes started using the gold hardware in this line of guitars.

Note that the headstock on this particular model is a copy of the Stratocaster guitars known as the “pre-lawsuit” models (Fernandes started to change the headstock on these guitars in the 80’s due to a threat of a lawsuit by Fender and Gibson for their Burny line of Les Paul guitars and Strat models). This particular model (FST-55) is part of a series called “The Function” (there were numerous variations produced under these series) this particular one has the HSS pick up configuration and locking nut and 2-point pivot tremolo (non-locking) with fine tuners on top of the block. The tone pot has also a push-pull function that allows the humbucking pick up in the bridge position to be split to a single coil giving additional 2 different tonalities in position 1 and 2 of the selector switch – these are very good tonal variations that makes this guitar extremely versatile to play different music styles.

For some of you that are not aware of this guitar company, they have been in business since the 60’s and made great faithful copies of Fender and Gibson famous guitars and basses. They eventually started production of their own designs and variations of the classic models. Several famous guitar players did help endorse this brand throughout the years (Brad Gillis, Jeff Watson, Craig Goldie, Adrian Vandenberg, Mick Taylor, John Mayall, Rick Derringer, Neil Schon, etc).

The body (Alder) color is a very nice and shiny Metallic Purple (which changes to Blue depending on the angle and light) which was part of a very limited run with the matching headstock and gold hardware that shows some discoloration and rust spots.
There are a few nicks and scratches in the body - I tried to show these in the photos.

I imported this guitar from Japan a while back, never played it much and never took it outside the house.
The neck shape is a “U” shape – slim and narrow profile with 24.75" scale (Gibson Scale) which allows for a lower string tension by narrowing the distance between the frets. The width at the nut is aprox. 40 mm. There is no visible fret wear. The radius on the fretboard is a modern 14”. The guitar weighs 7 lbs 12 oz.
All the electronics are original as well as the pickups and everything works but the pots and 5-way switch are scratchy as the input jack also has contact issues at times. This guitar has long have been out of production and it is almost impossible to find now especially in this color and in this condition! The fit and finish of these guitars are excellent (I own a few other Fernandes guitars from the 80’s and they are all great guitars) rivaling other more famous brands that costs much more.

For shipping, I will bubble wrap it really good and will place it inside the generic gig bag that I got with this guitar.
