The Keeley Tone Workstation is an all-analog, "three-in-one" multi-effects pedal system designed by Robert Keeley Electronics. Created as the ultimate "front-end" solution for a guitar signal chain, it packs four of Keeley's most legendary utility, boost, and overdrive circuits into a single compact housing. The device features three completely independent sections, each with its own heavy-duty footswitch:1. Compressor Section (Keeley Compressor)

  • Description: Based on the classic, award-winning Keeley compressor circuit. It smooths out dynamics, adds sustain, and levels out note volume.
  • Controls: Level, Sustain, and Blend. The Blend knob allows you to mix your dry signal back in with the compressed audio (Manhattan-style compression), maintaining your guitar's natural pick attack and clarity.
  • Switch: Treble / Stock – allows you to introduce a high-end treble boost for added brightness.

2. Middle Section (1962 Overdrive / Katana Boost)

  • A mini-toggle switch selects between two distinct Keeley designs:
    • 1962 Mode: Delivers a British amp-style crunch, inspired by the vintage Marshall Bluesbreaker sound utilizing JFET circuits.
    • Katana Mode: Activates Keeley’s famous Katana Clean Boost. This is a transparent, pure volume boost that does not add distortion on its own—perfect for driving your tube amp harder or boosting guitar solos. In this mode, only the Level knob is active.

3. Drive Section (Red Dirt Overdrive)

  • Description: Features the Red Dirt circuit, which represents Robert Keeley’s 15-year culmination of modifying classic Tube Screamer style circuits. It provides a creamy, mid-rich overdrive that easily cuts through a band mix.
  • Controls: Level, Drive, and Tone.
  • Switch: Baked / Mod+. Mod+ delivers a classic, versatile overdrive, while the Baked mode increases the gain range drastically for a highly saturated, aggressive distortion sound.

Key Specifications:

  • Enclosure: Compact, pedalboard-friendly chassis with top-mounted jacks to save space.
  • Bypass: True Bypass switching (ensures no tone-sucking when the pedal is off).
  • Power Requirements: Standard 9V DC center-negative power supply.

This workstation is highly popular among touring musicians (famously used on pedalboards by artists like John Mayer) because it replaces up to four separate units, offering a highly reliable baseline tone in a single layout.
