This 2017 Fender Limited Edition Reclaimed Old Globe Cooked Pine Jazzmaster is one of the more interesting Fenders I've come across. Between the reclaimed pine body, beautiful natural grain, figured maple neck, and simplified controls, it has a completely different personality from your typical Jazzmaster. It's a really cool guitar, especially when you get a chance to appreciate the wood up close.

The story behind this one is pretty incredible, too. Fender released it as part of their 2017 Limited Edition Exotic Collection, using reclaimed old-growth Eastern White Pine from the historic Old Globe grain elevator in Superior, Wisconsin. The elevator dates back to 1887, and the reclaimed wood gives these guitars a piece of history you don't often find in a production instrument.

What I particularly like about this one is how much character the wood has. There are beautiful knots, darker streaks, and natural grain patterns throughout the body, especially on the back. The warm amber coloring pairs perfectly with the black pickguard, and the figured maple neck is another nice touch. Even the burned-in-style Jazzmaster logo on the headstock fits the overall look. Nothing about it feels overly dressed up. The wood does all the talking.

It plays and sounds great, too. The guitar has a really lively, resonant feel, and the pickups have plenty of clarity and punch while still retaining that fuller, chimey character you'd expect from a Jazzmaster-style guitar. I also really like the simplified electronics. You've got a three-way selector, volume, and tone controls, along with a fixed bridge. It's straightforward, comfortable, and easy to get a great sound out of.

Condition is Excellent overall and very close to new. There are only some minor signs of handling, and the natural wood finish does a great job of blending them into the character of the guitar. It has been inspected and tested, and everything is functioning as it should.

What stood out to me

• Beautiful reclaimed Eastern White Pine body with incredible natural grain and knots

• Part of Fender's 2017 Limited Edition Exotic Collection

• Wood reclaimed from the historic Old Globe grain elevator dating back to 1887

• Gorgeous figured maple neck with a contrasting skunk stripe

• Natural amber finish that really highlights the character of the wood

• Burned-in-style Fender Jazzmaster headstock logo

• Really resonant, lively feel with plenty of punch and clarity

• Simple three-way switching and fixed bridge setup

• Excellent condition with very little noticeable wear

• Includes the Fender hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, and pictured case candy

A quick note on the wood: This isn't a conventional painted finish with uniform grain underneath. The knots, color variations, and darker streaks are part of what makes this reclaimed pine so interesting. Every one of these guitars has its own character, and I think the grain on this particular example is especially nice.

The photos shown are real photographs of this exact guitar. What you see is the instrument you'll receive, including any wear or imperfections shown.

Like all my guitars, this one has been personally inspected and tested to make sure everything is functioning properly and it's ready to enjoy when it arrives. I'm a guitar guy first, and I give every instrument the same attention I'd want if I were buying it myself.
