Hofner 450 Cutaway - 1968
The Hofner 450/S (with the "S" designating a single cutaway) is a vintage 16-inch full-size archtop guitar manufactured in Bubenreuth, Germany. This one is in remarkably good condition for it's age. Tuners have been replace and the bridge assemble could be a replacement. Great hollowbody guitar at a bargain price point
Key Features from the Late 1960s
- Body Design: Full-size 16-inch bottom bout archtop with an all-maple body.
- Cutaway: The /S variant features a single Venetian-style cutaway for easier upper-fret access.
- Hardware & Appointments: By the late 1960s, Hofner began introducing body-back binding (purfling/hemming) and updated plastic-saddled 4-way bridges on these acoustic archtops, moving away from the plain un-bound backs of earlier years.
- Neck and Fretboard: Pearwood fingerboard with bronze frets and a standard ~64.5 cm scale length. Late-60s models often feature a chunkier vintage neck profile and a narrower nut width.
- Finish: Most examples were finished in a classic tobacco brown sunburst, though wine red sunburst variations also exist.
