The Eko Ranger VI is a classic six-string steel-string acoustic guitar made by the Italian guitar manufacturer Eko Guitars. Introduced under the Ranger name in 1967, it became one of Europe's best-known budget acoustic guitars, prized for its distinctive 1960s styling, sturdy construction and affordable price. Its 12-string counterpart was called the Ranger XII.

Appearance and construction

The Ranger VI has a large, deep-bodied acoustic design, a broad black pickguard, a traditional headstock and, on many versions, a glossy finish. Its distinctive vintage appearance makes it especially appealing to fans of 1960s and 1970s folk and rock music.

Body

Traditional dreadnought-style body designed for full-bodied acoustic playing.

Sound and playing feel

The Ranger VI has a recognizably vintage acoustic voice.

• Tone: Generally bright and direct, with a woody, slightly dry character rather than the rich, complex overtones of a high-end solid-wood acoustic.
• Strumming: Well suited to open chords, folk songs, pop accompaniment and vintage rock.
• Fingerpicking: Can work well for simple picking patterns, although individual guitars vary in clarity and responsiveness.
• Volume: It can provide a useful acoustic sound for home playing and songwriting, but generally lacks the projection and tonal complexity of many modern, premium solid-top guitars.
• Weight and feel: Vintage Rangers are often described as robust and somewhat heavy. Neck shape and playing comfort depend on the particular model and its setup.
