Okay I admit it everyone. My energy today is low. The sky is a blank diffuse white. Ideally I would eat a hamburger and take a nap but apparently that's not in the cards. I spent today in my basement fighting to open this thing. In fact I bought a driver bit specifically for opening this boombox. It's not the first time I've encountered very deep tunnels of plastic before the driver reaches the screw, and until now I've been able to cobble something together with various bits and extenders, but not today. So I decided to solve the problem the way all problems are solved: with a purchase.

I succeeded with the first screw, and with a mild air of cleverness I went on to the second and final screw only to find that the plastic tunnel narrowed smaller than the bit and I could not reach it still. Why would anyone build something like this? I felt like a prank had been pulled at my expense, like the mechanical engineers over at JVC were snickering when they had it open in CAD and some nerd got his jollies for the week. "Oh Bill you're such a card! You could easily have copied and pasted the shaft from the other one! There was plenty of room inside the case around that screw but you deliberately tapered the shaft narrower than a standard sized driver bit! Hilarious!"

You may now be saying I'm taking this a bit personally, but I speak on behalf of people attempting to repair equipment that has, more often than not, been designed to be difficult to repair. What fool would bother replacing belts and cleaning up antiquated and ugly boomboxes from the 90's when they could just solve the problem the way all problems are solved? With a purchase.

In any case you can purchase this as well. It has new drive belts in the cassette tape section. The tape heads and transport have been cleaned. The tape speed has been calibrated. All functions have been tested and are working great! An AC power cable is included but batteries are not. Thanks for looking!
