  • Guitar plays well and action is 6/64” on bass side with room on the saddle.
  • Bridge is starting to lift.
  • There is a small piece of missing binding.
  • Original case, that shows some minor warping.
  • One tuner has yellowed significantly more than the others.

The Sales Pitch:

Really cool 70s Kay I’ve in my collection for a while now. This is a really nice couch player or fun for the camp site. It’s kind of a mix of several Martin models, smaller OM side, D40 inlays, D-35-esque 3 piece back. Just a very cool little player.

I’ve had this thing in my collection for 5+ years and it’s been a great little guitar to strum around on.

Condition Notes:

This is not a mint condition piece. There is some wear and cosmetic issues. There’s a small piece of missing binding, and the bridge is lifting a bit in the back. It doesn’t NEED anything at the moment, but I will disclose what I know.

  • Other than the missing binding, there don’t appear to be any active cracks or previous repairs.
  • The headstock is Martin-esque.
  • The truss rod works and has room, but it’s not the smoothest to move.
  • The truss rod cover is missing a screw.
  • The tuners work okay for a 70s MIJ Kay. They work kind of as expected for this era. One tuner has yellowed significantly more than the others (weird).
  • The nut appears to be original and is decent enough. If you wanted to deck this out, you’d probably replace with bone.
  • The frets are in good shape. They are a little flat, but I think that's just how they came. No divots or anything like that.
  • The fretboard has been recently cleaned and oiled.
  • The bridge is adjustable and the saddle appears to be original. Again, a bone saddle would probably make this thing even more killer.
  • Cosmetically, there is minor wear, surface dings and scratches throughout, but nothing crazy.
  • There is a small piece of binding missing on the lower bout and a couple other places where the binding shows cracks (but are stable).
  • The bridge appears to be lifting slightly in the back. The action is still good. It was like this when I added it to my collection 5+ years ago and doesn’t seem to have moved at all.
  • The case is in decent condition. No bad smells or stains. It is a little warped on the top just from existing for so long…it’s kind of between a chipboard case and an “actual” case.

The Fine Print:

Reverb limits us to 25 photos. I try to capture the “worst” things. I am happy to provide additional information / photographs upon request. Definitely reach out and ask if there's anything I missed or anything you want to know.

I am not interested in trades with Gen. Pop. I’m mostly trying to clear out physical space, but if you are local to me, an established shop, or a credible YouTuber and you have something vintage or weird that is cool, it doesn’t hurt to ask. If you’re not either of those things, it’s extremely unlikely, due to complexities of making a trade and security concerns around shipping an instrument to an unknown destination.

I try to price my gear fairly based on time I spend "researching the market". Please keep offers realistic.

I try to make sure all of my instruments are set up and play/sound great before listing them. That said, everyone has different preferences and sometimes traveling can cause movement. It would be best to expect to have to do a setup, but then be pleasantly surprised if you don’t.

All of my gear is sold as-is, but I won't leave you hanging if it arrives other than as-described / photographed. I will work to get your guitar safely packed and shipped out quickly (usually the same day or the next day). I take quick shipping and safe packing very seriously.

Much of my gear gets cross posted on my local FB marketplace for local sales. Please do not send me a message here on Reverb asking me to do a deal outside of Reverb. It is against their terms of service.
