Excellent condition
The Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro Parlor Spruce HG A3 is a compact, premium-quality acoustic guitar designed to deliver a surprisingly full sound from a small body. Made in Canada by the Godin family of guitar brands, the Woodland Pro combines traditional tonewoods, understated styling, and built-in electronics for playing at home, recording, or performing live. Its standout feature is how much bass, sustain, and tonal richness it can produce despite its parlor size.
Appearance and construction
The HG designation refers to its high-gloss finish. Depending on the particular version, it may have a natural spruce appearance or a sunburst finish. The spruce top, decorative rosette, contrasting binding, and rosewood appointments give it a classy, traditional look without excessive ornamentation.
Tonewoods and sound
The model is specified with a select, pressure-tested solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. Spruce gives the notes clarity and sparkle, while mahogany contributes warmth and a strong midrange. Together, they produce a balanced sound with clear individual notes and an unusually substantial low end for a small guitar
The guitar's sound is one of its strongest selling points.
- Bass: Surprisingly deep and rich for a parlor guitar. A review by Premier Guitar particularly praised its dimensional low end.
- Treble: Clear, bright, and sparkling without necessarily sounding thin.
- Midrange: Balanced and woody, making it suitable for accompanying vocals.
- Sustain: Notes ring out for a long time, giving fingerpicked melodies a fuller character.
- Overall volume: More substantial than you might expect from its compact body, although a full-size dreadnought will generally move more air. Premier Guitar+1
What is it best suited for?
Fingerstyle and folk
Its clear note separation and strong sustain make it well suited to arpeggios, alternating-bass patterns, folk, and blues.
Singer-songwriters
The balanced tone supports vocals without overwhelming them, making it useful for songwriting and recording.
Comfortable everyday playing
Its smaller body and shorter scale make it convenient for playing while seated, traveling, and keeping close at hand.
Loud ensemble strumming
It can handle strumming well, but its smaller body won't have quite the same broad projection and bass power as a large dreadnought.
