Key Features and Specifications

• Circuit: Uses a Voltage Controlled Amp (VCA) design built around an RCA CA3080E operational amplifier.
• Controls: Simple two-knob layout featuring Sustain (adjusts compression intensity and sustain) and Level (controls overall output volume).
• Switching: Utilizes a quiet FET electronic footswitch (often referred to as the Q-1 "Quiet One" square switch) for pop-free switching.
• Power: Runs on a 9V battery or a 9V DC power adapter (historically requiring a mini/3.5mm-style jack depending on the exact production sub-version).
• Build: Rugged zinc die-cast construction with a bright red enclosure and LED indicator.
• Tonal Character: Known for delivering a warm, smooth, and natural vintage compression that tightens clean tones without sounding overly harsh. On The Gear Page, users note that it adds pleasant thickness to the guitar tone while gently rolling off high frequencies, making it popular for slide and fingerpicking.
