I would pick brand new for its overall condition…because that’s exactly what it is and it’s literally never been used. I’m just not a professional dealer and you can’t list it as brand new.

ToneRite (often called a guitar enhancer or play-in device) is a small electronic unit designed to accelerate the natural “play-in” process of acoustic and related guitars by applying controlled vibrations.

Product Description

It is a compact, powered device (typically the 3rd Generation / G3 model for guitars) that sits on the strings near the bridge. Special Elastone rubber feet wedge between the strings (compatible with string spreads up to about 2-5/32” / 55 mm) and transfer energy into the instrument. It works on steel-string or nylon-string acoustics, archtops, hollowbody/semi-hollow electrics, and is also marketed for banjos in some versions. Operation is described as nearly silent.

The concept comes from the observation that instruments often improve in tone, volume, and response after thousands of hours of playing, as wood fibers relax and internal stresses are reduced. ToneRite aims to simulate the physical effects of long-term playing in a much shorter time.

How It Functions

•  You place the unit on the strings close to the bridge so the feet contact the strings and energy transfers efficiently into the top (and through the structure).

•  Plug it into a power outlet (models exist for 110V and 220V markets). An inline dial on the power cord controls intensity and harmonic content.

•  Higher settings emphasize volume, resonance, and dynamics; lower/gentler settings are said to favor nuance, warmth, and harmonic complexity.

•  The manufacturer recommends an initial continuous treatment of roughly 72–144 hours (about 3–6 days). Some users or the company suggest a staged approach (e.g., full intensity for several days, then reduced). Shorter follow-up sessions can be used afterward to maintain results.

•  It is intended to be used while the guitar is not being played (on a stand or safely supported, not inside a closed case). Keep the cord off the finish to avoid marks.

Claimed benefits (per the manufacturer and many user/luthier reports) include increased volume and dynamic range, better resonance and balance across frequencies, improved playability, stronger sustain, and a more “opened-up” or mature sound—especially useful for new guitars that feel tight or older instruments that have sat unused. It is not claimed to turn a poor instrument into a great one; it aims to bring out an instrument’s existing potential.
