Personal Thoughts:
This is a remarkable collector-grade example of the 2008 Slash “Jessica” VOS and quite possibly one of the most untouched surviving guitars from the run. Gibson based the model on one of the late-’80s Les Paul Standards most closely associated with Slash, recreating the faded Cherry Sunburst appearance, three-piece maple top and Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickup specification that helped define the look and sound of the original.
The appeal of this particular #038 example goes well beyond the model itself. The guitar has effectively been preserved as a time capsule: it has never been played, the original strings have never been changed, and even the switch tip was never installed. It is accompanied by the original packaging, signature case, certificate and associated collector’s items, making it an unusually complete example.
Visually, the faded Aged Cherry Sunburst finish gives the guitar that familiar “Jessica” character, with a warmer, more worn-in appearance than a conventional Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The three-piece maple top, rosewood board and traditional nickel hardware keep the specification very close to the late-’80s Gibson aesthetic, while the Alnico II Pro humbuckers deliver the smooth, vocal midrange and softer attack so closely associated with Slash’s classic tone.
With 400 VOS guitars produced, these are already considerably scarcer than mainstream Slash models. Finding one in this level of originality and preservation, with the factory strings still fitted and original switch tip untouched, makes #038 a genuinely special proposition for a serious Gibson or Slash collector.
Condition Report:
Mint collector’s condition. The guitar has never been played and remains extraordinarily original, with the factory strings still fitted and the switch tip never installed. No meaningful playwear, fret wear or handling marks to mention. Supplied with its original Slash signature hardshell case, original black certificate in leather pocket, Slash leather jacket, original box and associated case candy.
