Our take

A Fender Japan '62 Reissue Stratocaster, model ST62-55, made at the FujiGen plant. The FujiGen-built reissues of the 1980s have a following of their own for how closely and how consistently they were made, and this is a late one, from the last weeks of the decade.

For less than a Fender American Professional you can own a historic model that is worthy of the name and will only go up in value.

It suits a player who wants the early-'60s Stratocaster formula, a rosewood board, three single coils and a vintage tremolo, in an instrument that has seen very little use.

This one

• Condition: Excellent
• Function: sounds and plays as a real Strat should
• Cosmetics: very lightly used; it appears to have spent most of its life in its case
• Weight: 7 lb 14 oz

No mods. Pristine original hardware and electronics, which is very rare.

Amazing fret condition, virtually zero wear. (I can find slight evidence of playing on the first and second fret, see photo, but it is difficult to see, much less photograph.) The hardware is bright with minimal aging, and the wiring and solder joints look undisturbed, see the photo taken with the pickguard lifted.

Noted on inspection

• Neck pocket, corner: a small paint chip, about 1 to 2 mm, exposing the wood.
