Dingwall D-Roc Hellboy 2022

The Dingwall D-Roc Hellboy is a unique limited edition born from a collaboration between Dingwall, Darkglass Electronics, Dark Horse Comics, and Epica bassist Rob van der Loo.

Based on the D-Roc model, it stands out immediately thanks to its limited-edition Hellboy graphics and matte finish. The body is crafted from African mahogany and features a generous cutaway for easy access to the upper frets. The five-piece maple neck is topped with a Pau Ferro fingerboard and features the signature Novax fanned-fret system with 20 frets. The scale length ranges from 34 to 37 inches, ensuring the low B-string retains a tight response and clear definition.

The Hellboy is distinguished primarily by its built-in Darkglass distortion circuit. Its three Dingwall FD3-N pickups (featuring neodymium magnets) can be switched into various configurations using the four-position Quad-Tone rotary selector, while the push/pull volume control activates the Darkglass circuit. Separate distortion blend and tone controls allow for precise adjustment of the drive level. In passive mode, the bass delivers the familiar D-Roc tone and dynamics, while the onboard distortion adds a powerful, aggressive dimension without the need for external pedals.

The hardware is also fully aligned with Dingwall’s modern approach. The custom-designed D-Roc bridge offers extensive adjustability for string height and intonation, while Hipshot tuners with a 20:1 ratio ensure precise tuning. The combination of the multi-scale length, the ergonomic D-Roc body, and the extensive electronics makes the Hellboy a highly versatile bass with a distinctive character.

This Dingwall dates from 2022 and is in near-mint condition, showing only minimal signs of play on the top. The bass comes with a gig bag.
