Pearl Master Custom Maple Shell (Shell Only + Hardware) 1996 - Black Mist

If you’re in the market for a thin shell maple snare to add to your gigging arsenal this is a great option! After all it’s all about the shell and this 61/2x14 shell is in good condition. Pearl Master Custom 6/12x14 Maple Snare Drum in Black Mist color. Snare was purchased back in 1996 this is one from the original Pearl Master Custom Series leased back in 1994. Shell is used in good players condition.

THE GOOD: The bearing edges are smooth with no nicks or dents. The maple shell is true with no ply seperation. No serious pitting in the chrome lugs, none of the tension rods or inserts are stripped and turn smoothly. 

THE OK: The Pearl Multi-Truss Throw-Off, (3-notch settings) works just fine for engaging/ disengaging the snares- just won’t hold your dialed in snare tension setting for very long,(slowly loses tension). The tip and tension spring,( which sat at the end of the screw looking thing off the back of the strainer lever) popped off many years ago. Probably why Pearl discounted this model throw-off and has a slight bend in the tensioning screw, (but still works nice and smooth). On the plus side this throw-off is easily replaced with other Pearl strainers that won’t require any drilling.

The shell air vent is loose. Vent can’t fall out just might produce a noticeable rattle if close mic’d or studio work. I just put 2 thin strips of duct tape taped on the inside and took away that concern,(see pics a little bit of tape residue is still visible).

NOTE: Some small dents and scraps in outer shell. Nothing major or serious but they are there, (see pics).

So… for the additional cost maybe of a simple snare throww-off and a 10 lug die-cast or triple flanged rims you’ll have yourself a great sounding snare that didn’t cost so much that you’re afraid to even take out of the house! Includes Pearl drum key and 22 tension rods.
