1994 Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cutaway TV Yellow w/HSC, Centennial
For sale is a 1994 Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cutaway, produced during Gibson’s centennial year and finished in TV Yellow. This particular example has a slightly more mustardy interpretation of the finish, with the mahogany grain showing through.
Gibson’s 1994 production serial numbers begin with 94, rather than following the usual serial-number format used to determine the production year. Although the serial could potentially be misread as indicating 1997 when interpreted using the traditional method, the year has been confirmed as 1994 by the accompanying potentiometer (pot) codes, which corroborate the production date.
Constructed with a solid, single-piece mahogany body, a ’60s slim-profile bound neck, and a pair of P-90 pickups, this is a fantastic example of mid-’90s Gibson craftsmanship from what is often regarded as the brand’s “good-wood era.”
Condition-wise, this is a very good, all original example. The guitar has previously had a neck crack repair, which has been professionally executed to a very high standard. The repair is completely solid, and the guitar is structurally sound and fully functional. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of the repair and overall condition.
Cosmetically, the finish has aged beautifully, with subtle lacquer checking that adds to the guitar’s vintage character. There are some light surface marks both to the front and rear of the body, consistent with its age and careful use, but overall it presents very well. The neck is smooth and notably clean, the frets retain plenty of life, and all electronics operate flawlessly. The headstock face has some light lacquer "bubbling" which is synonymous with Gibsons from this era. This is merely superficial, the lacquer is all intact and dare we say, adds to the guitar's aged look.
All components are original.
