This 2004 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R9 is a beautifully built reissue of the legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard, finished in a classic Cherry Sunburst over a figured maple top. Built in Gibson's Custom Shop to Historic spec, it captures the look, feel and tone of the holy-grail Bursts that players and collectors chase.
The R9 is Gibson's tribute to the 1959 Les Paul Standard, widely regarded as the pinnacle of the model. It combines a solid mahogany body with a carved figured maple top, a mahogany neck with the substantial '59 rounded profile and a rosewood fingerboard. The result is a guitar with the weight, resonance and sustain that make the Les Paul Standard so revered.
A pair of humbuckers, measuring 7.11k in the neck and 8.23k in the bridge, deliver that classic, singing Les Paul voice, from warm and vocal to thick and powerful. The bridge and stop bar tailpiece have been swapped for high-quality vintage-style parts from St. Helens Vintage Guitar Parts, a tasteful upgrade in both tone and authenticity, while the two pots that were likely fitted to the guitar previously are included in the case for anyone who would like them.
The guitar is in very good condition. It shows some buckle rash and a few dings on the back of the body, but nothing that takes away from how great it looks and plays. It comes complete with its certificate, a hardshell case and a TFOA Passport.
This instrument has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
