The ODB-3 is an analog overdrive/distortion pedal designed specifically for bass, introduced in 1994 and still in production today. It stands out for its very wide gain range, from a subtle crunchy edge to much more aggressive saturation, making it particularly well suited to rock, punk, metal and heavily “dirty” tones. Its biggest advantage is the Balance control, which allows you to blend the clean and distorted signals to retain the bass’s low end and presence, even with a 5-string bass. It also features a separate 2-band Bass/Treble EQ, along with Gain and Level controls. Its character can be quite biting and modern, and even slightly synthetic at high saturation levels, but this aggressive character is precisely what makes it so appealing. It features BOSS’s famously rugged enclosure, buffered bypass, and can be powered by a 9V battery or AC adapter. A true classic among bass players, it is particularly effective for achieving heavy saturation while retaining solid low-end punch.
