Mid-1970s Gibson ES-175 – Original T-Tops & Electronics – Excellent Player – Original Case

Fantastic sounding and playing mid-1970s Gibson ES-175 with the warm, woody tone and feel these vintage 175s are known for. This is a great example for someone looking for a genuine vintage ES-175 that can actually be played and enjoyed—not just kept in a case.

Highlights

  • Straight neck with comfortable, low action
  • Original frets with plenty of life remaining
  • Original Gibson electronics
  • Original engraved patent-number T-Top humbuckers, both measuring in the low-to-mid 7KΩ range
  • Original hardshell case
  • No headstock breaks or repairs
  • Excellent acoustic resonance and classic plugged-in ES-175 tone

The neck has a dark brown appearance. I believe it may be mahogany, which could place the guitar around 1974, but I cannot say that with certainty, so I am listing it simply as a mid-'70s example.

Changes / Cosmetic History

The bridge and tuners are replacements.

At some point, a previous owner painted a faux binding around the edge of the headstock. This was carefully removed and the area was lightly touched up. There are also two small holes in the top, apparently made by a previous owner—possibly for a badge, plaque, or similar decoration.

None of this takes away from what matters most: this is an excellent playing and great sounding vintage ES-175 with its original T-Tops and electronics intact.

It has the honest character and history you expect from a roughly 50-year-old working instrument, and it would make an outstanding jazz guitar, vintage Gibson player, or addition to a collection.

If you're looking for a vintage ES-175 that you don't have to be afraid to play, this is the one.
