A Museum-Tier Vintage Anomaly: The 1978 Guild "Westerly Floor Sweep" M-65
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, mint-condition Guild Freshman M-65 hollow body electric guitar in 3/4 size. While official production of the M-65 model halted in 1973, this extraordinary instrument features a confirmed 1978 factory serial number (170775) matching both the internal label and the headstock stamp. In 1978, luthiers at Guild’s famous Westerly, Rhode Island factory discovered a small leftover batch of unused M-65 bodies and short-scale necks. Rather than letting the premium wood go to waste, they hand-assembled and shipped a final run of completed guitars—a legendary factory occurrence known among collectors as a "Westerly Floor Sweep."It is a hollow-body archtop finished in a tobacco-brown sunburst (SB) with f-holes. The body is mahogany and is bound on top with ivory-colored binding. The fingerboard is rosewood and has abalone dot inlays. It has its original single-coil anti-hum pickup, and wiring harness. All of the hardware is original. The neck is straight and fret-wear is extremely minimal. It is in excellent / mint condition overall.
The original case is included.
The label inside the guitar f-hole has the serial number 170775 which matches the serial number stamped into the back of the headstock. There are a few very light scratches on the bottom edge, on the bass-side of the body as seen in the picture.
