The sensor unit pairs a stereo condenser microphone with a trigger pickup, both built around Japanese-made custom capsules chosen for their clarity and precision. The microphone hears the kit the way a room does, so what it captures is already a coherent stereo image rather than a stack of close mics you have to balance. From there, 2,203 voices and 252 digital effects let you shape the sonic image. Layer a deeper kick under your own, add a room that suits the song's ambience, or reach for a full DTX electronic kit sound. With the EAD20, your acoustic drums keep their character and pick up the polish of a studio-mixed kit.

Record and share on your own terms

An 8-input, 10-output USB audio interface is built in, and a single cable to your computer puts your session straight into a DAW. MIDI Out carries your trigger data alongside it, and the USB Trigger Link function loads samples, backs up your scene and setup data, and connects external devices. Add the free Rec'n'Share app and the EAD Touch app, and you can shoot a performance, edit it, adjust effect parameters between takes, and post it — all from your phone. With the EAD20 in your setup, everything you need between your first hit and a finished take is already in the box.

Room to build a hybrid rig

The EAD20 has five splittable trigger inputs that handle up to 10 triggers, plus a foot trigger input, allowing it to grow from a miked acoustic kit into a full hybrid setup, one pad at a time. Those inputs read single-zone, dual-zone, 3-zone, and multi-piezo pads, including pads not made by Yamaha.
