I purchased this guitar at an auction from Wade Norton's (Chief Engineer at NRG Studios - Beck, No Doubt, Papa Roach, etc...) personal collection. Serial number 90421406, this is a 1992 Gibson '62 SG Les Paul Custom Reissue.
While it looks like a standard 8-digit Gibson serial number that would typically decode to 1991, this specific 9042XXXX sequence is part of a highly sought-after, limited production batch from the early 1992 Nashville Custom Shop run.
According to the Wade Norton, this exact instrument is famously recognized as a primary studio tool and was used by bands like Papa Roach!
Production Details & Decoding
• Model: '62 SG Les Paul Custom Reissue (Triple Humbucker, typically finished in Alpine White with gold hardware)
• Year: Early 1992
• Factory: Built at the Nashville, TN plant
• Significance: Early reissues from this 1991–1992 period are highly prized by collectors for their historically accurate body carving, slim-taper necks, and excellent build quality.
Rockstars have used this guitar many times and so it has some nicks, dings, and scuffs as shown in the pictures. Having said that, it is in excellent cosmetic and functional condition.
This factory custom neck being matte wood on the rear, makes it much smoother and easier to play than a lacquered sticky neck.
The pickup covers were removed at some point during its tenure at NRG studios.
You have an opportunity to own a piece of Rock and roll history that you can shred on.
Includes a hard case.
