Follows description by Equipboard:

The Solo Series Bandit 112 introduced many new features, the most notable being an increase in power to 80 watts RMS and a choice between Peavey's Scorpion speaker and Peavey's newly introduced Sheffield speaker. Many of the innovations that would later be branded as Transtube were included in the Solo Series Bandit 112, but the name Transtube had not been adopted yet. There have been several different versions of the Solo Series Bandit 112 but they all share the same manual and the same control layout. One of the more popular variations is known as the Teal Stripe or Blue Stripe Bandit due to a blue horizontal stripe below the control panel. The Solo Series Bandit 112 was made in Meridian MS USA.

Key Specifications & Architecture

  • Power Output: 80 Watts RMS into 8 Ohms, pushing massive volume and exceptional clean headroom for a solid-state amplifier.
  • Speaker Options: A 1x12" configuration. Buyers in 1988 could choose between Peavey’s classic, punchy Scorpion speaker or the then-newly introduced Sheffield speaker (designed to offer a warmer, more aggressive, Celestion-like response).
  • Pre-TransTube Technology: While Peavey hadn't officially trademarked the name "TransTube" yet, the 1988 Solo Series introduced the early component architecture and tube-emulation circuitry that would later become the patented TransTube system.

Features & Control Layout

  • Dual Channels: Features a Normal (Clean) Channel and a Lead Channel, which are foot-switchable.
  • Tone Shaping: Equipped with independent 3-band EQs for each channel. The Lead channel featured the famous "Super SAT" (Saturation) gain control and a "Thrash" switch, allowing players to scoop the mids for popular late-80s metal tones.
  • Reverb: Includes a built-in, full-sized physical spring reverb tank that provides deep, organic ambient decay.
  • Back Panel Utilities: Includes a Preamp Out / Power Amp In loop (Effects Loop), a remote footswitch jack, and an external speaker jack to hook the amplifier up to a larger cabinet.

Legacy & Performance

The 1988 Teal Stripe is highly sought after today on the used market. Guitarists praise it for being an excellent pedal platform that handles distortion and modulation beautifully without the tone collapsing. Unlike tube amps of the era, it delivers incredibly consistent tone at lower bedroom volumes while still possessing enough raw power to easily cut through a live band mix.
