Personal Thoughts:
This is a beautifully traditional ’64 SG Reissue and one of those Custom Shop builds that gets the visual balance exactly right. The Cherry Red finish, large black pickguard, rosewood board and Maestro Vibrola give it the unmistakable mid-’60s SG look, while the VOS treatment adds a subtle aged character without pushing into heavy relic territory.
The Maestro setup is a big part of the appeal here. Aside from the visual impact, it gives the guitar that slightly looser, more expressive feel associated with vintage SGs, while the mahogany construction keeps the overall tone warm, resonant and very immediate. The mid-’60s neck carve should feel a little more substantial than the very slim early-’60s profiles, making this a comfortable and versatile player.
A really strong Custom Shop SG for anyone after the classic mid-’60s aesthetic, with plenty of vintage character and a specification that looks every bit as good as it sounds.
Condition Report:
Excellent condition. The light ageing and hardware patina are part of Gibson Custom’s original VOS treatment rather than subsequent damage. Beyond that, the guitar presents very cleanly overall with only light signs of careful use and no significant wear or damage to mention.
