Otari MX-5050 BQII - UPDATED!!!
Update!!!! Playback previously sounded a bit low/dull. A friend made some internal EQ adjustments and output volume and clarity now sound good!!! Records and plays back very well!!! See video for demo.
This Otari MX-5050 BQII is in very good condition for its age. Comes with custom-made side panels (and feet) made of exotic Louro Preto hard wood. Absolutely Gorgeous!!!! Original black side panels (with integrated handles) original feet, and rear bar also included.
All functions appear to work as they should. Capstan motor replaced and working perfectly now. Very clean inside - all old hardened grease removed, key moving parts lubricated and Deoxit applied to all pots and switches. Heads appear excellent with little wear. Heads also cleaned with 99% alcohol and demagnetized.
I am using an old memorex tape - so with a new high quality tape, clarity likely will get even better. Even with this old tape, it sounds pretty good to my ears. May be worthwhile calibrating various internal eq adjustments - something I am unable to do as I lack the knowledge and the calibration tape/equipment. Again, to my ears it sounds pretty good. Due to the age of this unit - it is being sold as is.
Due to weight of this item, local pickup only (Indianapolis area). No shipping - sorry.
Will include 2 new XLR to RCA cables with reverse wiring specific for Otari. This will allow it to play on a home system.
The Otaris were originally built for professionals/broadcast industry, so very well made and highly durable.
