(RARE) 1982 G&L SB-2 (1982) - First Generation/First Year

I purchased this a few months ago as a 50th birthday gift to myself. It was a bucket list instrument for me. Sadly, arthritis leaves me unable to play it. Since I purchased, it has been out of the case once -- I put on fresh strings, added a nice, high quality, comfy leather strap, tuned it up, tracked down the exact case it would have come with originally, put it in that case, and that's where it has sat, since.

It is too special an instrument to just sit unplayed, so I'm putting it back up for sale. This first gen of SB-2s were only made from 1982-1984 making it extremely hard to find. These early examples very much had Leo Fender's personal attention as he was constantly tweaking and experimenting with things -- each one is almost a one of a kind, you could say. The high output single coil MFD pickups are like a Jazz Bass on steroids. They provide an aggressive, metallic "growl", deep low-end "thump", and highly pronounced harmonic overtones.

It has been played and played well with love. Maintained by a professional musician and luthier -- I'm linking to his original listing as it is still accurate and I couldn't describe it better. I'm listing it for what it cost me (i.e. total cost after tax and shipping) but offering free shipping for you and throwing in the vintage accurate case for free, along with some extra strings and picks. You can have both cases if you wish, as I have no use for an empty bass case.

The price is a steal with all the extras and considering the condition it is in. I'm not in a rush. I just want it to go to a player who will treasure it as it deserves.

I also have a Markbass Mark Vintage Pre (Bass Preamp Pedal) featuring a 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tube that I purchased but never used. I can make a package deal if you want all of it. Reach out and we can make a deal. Also a Markbass CMD JB Players School 250-Watt 1x15" Bass Combo Amp that has never been used. Comes with the official Markbass cover. Can make a deal for all of it but the bass amp is only available for local sale as it is big and heavy and I prefer not to ship it. Everything else can be shipped, though.
