This Yamaha YAS-62IIIS is a silver plated 62 alto in near mint shape, and it still looks the part. The plating is clean. You’re not dealing with heavy tarnish, worn-through spots, or a horn that lived in a gig bag for ten years. A few days ago it went through a professional service. I play tested it several times after that, not just a quick blow. It’s in tune. Tone holes are in great shape. Pads are sealing with no leaks. The sound is that classic 62 voice — centered, with a little extra brightness from the silver, and enough body in the low end when you push it.

The keywork feels even and the springs come back quickly without feeling stiff. Soft notes speak instead of hanging, and the upper end stays focused instead of getting thin or sharp. The YAS-62III is Yamaha’s current professional 62 alto, and the S is the silver plated version. Near mint silver ones are harder to find than lacquer 62s with the usual school wear.
