Produced in limited numbers, the Government Series is one of the more unusual chapters in Gibson's modern history, with the guitars built using rosewood that had been seized by U.S. authorities and subsequently returned to Gibson.

HISTORY

The Government Series was Gibson's response to the highly publicised 2011 seizure of tonewoods from its Nashville factory. Following the resolution of the dispute, Gibson used returned rosewood in a limited series of instruments, turning an unusual chapter in the company's history into part of the guitars themselves.
The Government Series II Explorer was limited to approximately 300 examples, making it considerably less common than a standard production Explorer. The Government Tan finish, black hardware, distinctive eagle artwork and Dirty Fingers+ pickups give the model a particularly individual appearance and specification.

COMMENTS

A particularly interesting modern Gibson with a genuine story behind it. The combination of the limited production, Government Tan finish, returned rosewood fingerboard and powerful Dirty Fingers+ pickups makes this an appealing instrument for both Gibson collectors and Explorer enthusiasts.
