Vintage 80’s Fender Telecaster Custom 62 Reissue TLC-62B MIJ Sunburst w/ Upgrades
Up for possible grabs is my beloved Fender Telecaster. Made in Japan during the Mid-Late 80’s. It started its life as your usual TLC-62B reissue model. This guitar was in a music studio fire in the 90’s, and was recovered from the wreckage with a handful of other guitars. I like to think of it as “roasted” long before that was in fashion haha. It was then cleaned up and upgraded by legendary Georgia luthier Tom Dodson, who really provided a gem here. The bridge was upgraded to the US 6 saddle deluxe bridge of that era, Noiseless pickups were installed (I know they’re not for everyone, but I put them in many of my fenders, and they really kill it here), and all new wiring with CTS pots. Has the original tuners. The original bridge is gone, and unfortunately that’s where the serial was stamped on these reissues. Small and comfortable 60s style tele neck. Not a chunky baseball bat at all. 7.25 radius, beautiful rosewood board. Just can’t beat it. This is a true player’s guitar. No joke, everyone loves this Tele. I have many well respected professional player friends who have said this tele is one of their favorites to play. I have novice students that try out all of my guitars (including many custom and boutique builds) and choose this one as the best playing/sounding. It’s got its share of cosmetic bumps and bruises, but is in excellent overall shape for being around 40 years old with surviving a fire and extensive touring haha. Guitar will come with generic gig bag.
The guitar was owned and used by Eddie Stone (organ and rhythm guitar player) of southern rock bands such as Doc Holliday, Wet Willie, and Stillwater. I bought it directly from him when I worked for him as a roadie in the early 00’s. Since then it’s been all over the world on tour with my various bands. It can even be seen being played on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. This is the guitar I said I’d never let go of. And I still may not. But I just lucked into a CS Tele that I’ve been after for awhile, and honestly, I don’t know if I need two similar Telecasters when the new one is just so killer. Therefore I’m putting feelers out on this one.
I’m open to trades of all kinds (with cash going either way as necessary)- Fender, PRS, Gibson, basses, tube amps, etc.
Feel free to throw any other ideas my way. I also kept this Tele in a vintage mid 60’s Fender hard case. I’m listing that separately, but can include that as part of any swap to bump up the trade value. It is NOT included in this sale. As always, this is a vintage instrument, so sold a—is. Check my feedback and buy with confidence. Reach out with any questions or offers. Cheers!
