1999 Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Reissue (R8), Quilt Top Wild Cherry, Dealer Special Order

1999 Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Reissue (R8) in a quilt top Wild Cherry, a dealer special order. Serial CS 9145. Gibson confirmed the dealer order, and the solid cherry finish wasn't a standard Custom Shop reissue offering at the time. It just glows in person.

This is from Gibson's "Good Wood" era, generally considered the best modern era for wood quality and QC, and it shows. The top is beautiful and the whole guitar weighs only 8.66 lbs. It has a '58 neck profile (obviously), and the fretboard is one of the most beautifully figured pieces of rosewood I've ever seen.

It's completely original and plays perfectly: no refinish, no repairs, no finish checking. Hardware, Custom Shop pickups (marked "Patent Applied For"), frets, stop tail, and binding are all original and in excellent shape. There's a small amount of tarnish on the nickel pickup covers on the low E side and on the stop tail. Basically no fret wear (photo included). It plays and sounds like it stepped out of the 1950s and into your hands.

The cherry is so saturated that the quilt is hard to photograph, so I've included a lot of angles.

Condition notes (all photographed)

• 2mm chip in the paint on the back of the headstock
• Small surface scuff on the side of the neck
• Fingernail-sized ding on the bottom bout, a couple of inches from the jackplate

My uncle bought it around 2005 and I've owned it for about ten years. It's a great guitar that deserves to be played more than I can play it.
