For sale is an Alesis ADAT XT, the classic 8-track digital multitrack recorder using S-VHS tape, also usable as an 8-channel AD/DA converter via ADAT optical connection.

I personally used this unit until recently mainly as an 8-input / 8-output converter, connected via ADAT optical cables to a MOTU audio interface to expand my studio I/O.

In this configuration it has been tested and works perfectly: analog inputs/outputs, conversion and ADAT digital connection have all been used regularly without issues.

FEATURES:

• 8 audio channels
• Digital recording on S-VHS tapes in ADAT format
• 18-bit A/D conversion
• 20-bit D/A conversion
• 44.1 / 48 kHz sample rates
• 8 RCA analog inputs
• 8 RCA analog outputs
• Balanced +4 dBu analog I/O via ELCO connector
• ADAT Optical Digital IN
• ADAT Optical Digital OUT
• 8 digital channels over a single optical connection
• Sync IN / OUT
• Auto Locate
• Auto Record / Auto Play / Auto Return
• Track Copy / Track Delay
• Pitch Control
• 19" rack format – 3U
• Universal 90–250 V power supply

Good overall cosmetic condition, with normal signs of use visible in the photos.

The analog/ADAT converter section has been fully tested and works perfectly. This is how I mainly used the unit.

The tape transport responds normally to the front-panel controls — Play, Stop, FF, REW, etc. — but I no longer have any S-VHS/ADAT tapes, so I have not recently tested tape playback, recording or the condition of the heads.

An interesting unit not only for anyone still working with the ADAT tape format, but also as a good-quality standalone 8-channel AD/DA converter via ADAT optical.

Local testing and collection preferred in the Como / Cantù area, Italy.
